DC Chapter 32 – Restless

The bathroom in the side residence was located along the entry hallway in Tang Ran’s bedroom. After coming out from the half-frosted glass door, one still had to walk down the hallway into the room before reaching the queen-size bed and wardrobe.

Tang Ran came out wrapped only in a bath towel; obviously she was planning to change her clothes in the bedroom.

A wet and defenseless young girl was right in front of him. Even without walking closer, he could already smell the fragrance that filled the air when the bathroom door opened.

In such a situation, Luo Zhan was extremely uncertain as to whether he could still flawlessly play the role of a “robot”.

So he decided to pretend to be air — wait for the young girl beside him to walk into the bedroom, and then take the chance to leave.

There was no problem with this plan. However, Luo Zhan forgot that the young girl beside him had a sensitive nose like a puppy.

As such, while Luo Zhan was looking forward steadily and holding his breath, the girl walking past him suddenly stopped without warning.

The girl’s nose moved a little, as if she was sniffing the air. Then she slowly tilted her head and asked uncertainly, “…Luoluo?”

Luo Zhan: “……”

There was silence for a few seconds. The “robot” lowered its eyes resignedly.

In the moist air saturated with water vapor from the bath, the mechanical voice reverberated slightly, carrying with it a kind of low magnetic quality—

“I’m here, Master.”

Tang Ran, who had confirmed her guess, was stunned for a while before recovering, “Why did you come in?”

Hidden under the lowered and dense eyelashes, the emotions in the pitch black pupils fluctuated wildly. There was some difficulty in restraining those disobedient and irrational thoughts.

The mechanical voice did its best to remain calm.

“Master was not present. Detected the heat source.”

Enlightened, Tang Ran nodded. Curving her eyes, she smiled and praised without hesitation, “Luoluo is really amazing.”

“……”

Young Master Luo, who led a lazy and frivolous life, found for the first time that he was so thin-skinned. Just one sentence of praise from a young girl made him feel too ashamed to show his face.

Fortunately, Tang Ran didn’t stay on this topic. Instead, she said as if comforting a real person, “Wait for me a bit, I’ll change my clothes and be out soon.”

“Yes.” Luo Zhan thought of something, and the emotions in his eyes settled down. He lowered his eyes, “Master.”

“……”

Luo Zhan returned to the living room and stood at the square table. After waiting a few minutes, he heard a rustling sound coming from the bedroom’s hallway.

He looked up in that direction.

About ten seconds later, a girl wearing a white nightgown emerged from the hallway.

Luo Zhan guessed that this white nightgown was probably also bought for Tang Ran by the woman she affectionately called Granny. It had similar aesthetics with that pink Hello Kitty apron.

The pure white nightgown had little puffy sleeves tied up, and the wide neckline, cuffs, and hem of the skirt were adorned with a light-colored, rose-patterned lace.

There was no gathering of the cloth around the waist, so the girl’s slender waist was completely hidden in the airy nightgown. But further up, one could see the little curvature of her slightly raised breasts.

However, the most eye-catching features were the girl’s beautiful face, which was rosy from the bath, and the alluring curves of her clavicle that was exposed by the wide neckline.

Luo Zhan used to listen to the boys in the INT team joking during their spare time, saying things like “killer clavicle” and “legs I could play with for a year”. He even scoffed at them repeatedly and didn’t take it seriously.

Today, only after witnessing it twice with his own eyes did he realize how this feeling of a dull knife grinding at the tip of one’s heart, was a kind of taste that made people reluctant to forget it.

Luo Zhan suppressed his desire to cough and averted his eyes.

At this moment, Tang Ran had already stopped in front of him.

“Luoluo, did you wait long?” The young girl asked anxiously.

The mechanical voice remained silent for two seconds, “My time belongs to Master. Master does not need to feel any guilt.”

Tang Ran gently smiled, “But waiting alone is the saddest thing…I don’t like that feeling. So I hope Luoluo won’t have to experience that too.”

Caught by a certain emotion in the girl’s words, Luo Zhan stood there, stunned.

When he had regained his composure, the young girl who had gradually become familiar with this “robot” over the past few days had already made her way around him and walked to the square dining table to sit down.

Luo Zhan turned around. He opened his mouth and decided to maintain the ignorance that a “robot” should have, “What was Master doing just now?”

“Taking a shower.” The girl answered softly without any suspicion.

Luo Zhan’s gaze swept over the girl’s long hair that was dripping wet and draped behind her, “…Has the hair been wiped dry?”

“Not yet,” Tang Ran said with some regret. “Since I can’t see anything, Granny is worried that using a hair dryer will be too dangerous for me, so I’m not allowed to use one.”

“Let me help you.”

“……?”

Tang Ran paused her hands that were wiping her hair. Only after a second or two did she look up with some surprise, “Luoluo even has this function?”

“Mn,” Young Master Luo replied with a straight face.

“In that case…alright,” the young girl’s voice carried a happy smile. “Thank you, Luoluo.”

“It is my honor to serve Master.”

Luo Zhan walked over and stopped behind Tang Ran. At such a close distance, the post-shower scent of water lilies mixed with a fruity fragrance on the girl’s body became more apparent.

The aroma seemed to materialize, circling around his body and even stirring his mind into a daze.

Luo Zhan lowered his eyes slightly and hesitantly lifted his hand—

The girl had placed the long towel over the top of her head, letting its fluffy sides hang down. Draped along her long jet black hair, it looked like two long ears hanging down.

Luo Zhan used his slender fingers to cover the towel. Clumsily and awkwardly, he slowly started rubbing her hair.

Feeling the stiffness and inexperienced movements of that hand, Tang Ran, whose hair had gotten messed up, couldn’t help but laugh. Her eyes curved like crescents, and her voice became much livelier.

“Luoluo, the person who developed your hair-wiping function must have never helped anyone wipe their hair before. Aren’t you clearly just rubbing my head?”

Young Master Luo, who was indeed helping to wipe someone’s hair for the first time in his life, got questioned and he lowered his eyes uneasily.

His subsequent movements became lighter.

“Next time…I will improve, Master.”

Out of his own selfish reasons, Luo Zhan advised the young girl in a nightgown to return to her bedroom and rest early.

So when Tan Yunchang and Lin Qianhua arrived at the side residence from which they had previously departed, they saw Luo Zhan unexpectedly standing outside.

Tan Yunchang was stunned for a moment, and looked around once he entered the house.

Luo Zhan heard movement and lowered his voice, “She’s already asleep.”

Tan Yunchang was surprised, “She went to bed this early?”

Luo Zhan glanced over disdainfully, “Weren’t you the one who wanted her to wake up early tomorrow?”

Feeling a slight chill from those words, Tan Yunchang felt the injustice of being unable to please someone no matter what he did. He looked at Luo Zhan mournfully, “Weren’t you the one who said to prepare early? Why are you blaming me now?”

“It’s us who need to be early, not her.”

Tan Yunchang put on an even more aggrieved look, “Your master is human, are Qianhua and I not human too? Brother Zhan, aren’t you being too hoes before bro—”

Before he could finish speaking, Luo Zhan had walked up and covered his mouth.

“Shh,” the youth in front looked lazy and indifferent, with a hint of light hidden in his eyes. “Don’t disturb her.”

Tan Yunchang: “……”

O-fucking-K. Compared to the young girl, they were really not counted as humans.

Luo Zhan returned to the cargo truck outside the Tang family’s courtyard. Before getting into the truck, Tan Yunchang used the vehicle’s interior lights to look at Luo Zhan strangely several times.

After Luo Zhan got into the truck, he habitually leaned back against the seat until he felt Tan Yunchang’s gaze on him. He raised his eyes, “What’s up?”

Tan Yunchang said, “I wanted to ask this just now when we were at the residence. Why is it that tonight you seem so…”

“So what.” Luo Zhan looked away without interest.

Tan Yunchang carefully considered his choice of words, “So…restless?”

Luo Zhan: “……”

Upon receiving a cold and apathetic glance from someone, Tan Yunchang innocently defended himself, “Ask Qianhua if you don’t believe me.”

Lin Qianhua who was driving suddenly got cued for no reason. After hesitating for a moment, he nodded honestly and said, “Brother Zhan, the corners of your eyes are a bit red tonight.”

Tan Yunchang interjected, “How is it just the corners? I think it’s red all the way to the neck, just like, like—” Tan Yunchang got stuck. A few seconds later, he slapped his thigh and gave an evil laugh, “Like watching a ‘little movie’1 for the first time, the effect is especially huge!”

Luo Zhan: “……”

Luo Zhan scoffed and leaned back with his eyes closed.

Tan Yunchang said, “Hey, ancestor, you’re not feeling guilty now, are you? Don’t tell me you got bored waiting in the house and took out your phone to watch ‘little movies’? In that case do you have any good resources to share?”

“……” Luo Zhan endured and didn’t speak.

“It’s fine if you don’t want to share.” Tan Yunchang spoke knowingly, “But it’s easy to have a spring dream at night after watching for the first time. You take it easy, we still have a long drive ahead tomorrow.”

Luo Zhan couldn’t take it and opened his eyes, his dark pupils cold.

He coolly twitched the corner of his mouth and said with a mocking tone, “From childhood till now, what beauty have I not seen before? Having a spring dream – do you think I’m you?”

Tan Yunchang remembered how this guy had tons of people chasing after him and felt crushed. He could only indignantly and powerlessly turn his head away.

The next morning, Tang Ran really woke up very early.

In the early morning, the side residence was even quieter. Not the slightest sound could be heard outside. There was some coldness in that quietness, and the young girl lay alone on the square dining table, waiting for Tan Yunchang and Lin Qianhua to come pick her up.

After some time, Tang Ran heard two voices talking outside the house. One of them seemed to be Tan Yunchang.

The young girl lying at the table sat up straight with a whoosh, like an alert and excited cub about to “go out from the hole”.

She pressed the button on the remote control for the door latch.

The originally muffled voices became clearer as the door opened.

One of the voices was complaining, “Didn’t you just come here last night? Why are you here again so early in the morning?”

Tan Yunchang’s voice said, “Sorry, security officer. We actually have a bit of a situation today, we need to ask this young lady to make a trip down to the lab with us.”

Security officer: “Okay then, I’ll wait here. You guys go on in.”

Tan Yunchang: “Alrighty, sorry for the trouble.”

Security officer: “Hey, wait a minute—”

Tan Yunchang: “What’s wrong?”

Security officer: “Who is this guy beside you wearing a baseball cap? He doesn’t seem to be the one who came before?”

“Ah.” Tan Yunchang said with a laugh, “Our lab has a lot of people. I didn’t dare to make last night’s guy wake up early. If he drove while feeling drowsy, wouldn’t we be risking an accident?”

“Alright, quickly pick up your person and leave, don’t delay too long.”

“No problem.”

A few seconds later, Tang Ran heard the door being pushed open. She stopped in front of the entrance and felt someone approaching.

Tang Ran smiled lightly, “Good morning, Store Manager.”

“…Good morning.”

The person approaching paused, raised their hand, and rubbed her head.

There was a faint scent of cedar wood mixed with morning dew and icy snow. Traces of it gently drifted and wound into her long hair.

The voice close to her contained a familiar hoarseness, as well as a lazy and nonchalant smile—

“Young lady.”
